Automatic LinkedIn sequence steps let you automate common LinkedIn actions, such as sending messages, connecting with people, and engaging with posts. This helps you save time while reaching out to more contacts.
You can combine automatic and manual steps in the same sequence to fit your workflow. For example, you could send connection requests manually while automating message delivery, or do the opposite.
Automating your LinkedIn outreach can help you reach more contacts, expand your network, generate leads, and promote your brand more efficiently.
Here are the available automatic LinkedIn sequence steps:
Message – send a message to an existing LinkedIn connection.
Connect – send a connection request to someone on LinkedIn.
InMail – send private messages to people on LinkedIn without needing a prior connection.
View Profile – automatically view a contact's LinkedIn profile.
Like Recent Posts – like posts shared by your contacts.
Endorse Skills – automatically endorse the skills of your contacts.
Follow Profile – follow the LinkedIn profiles of your targeted contacts.
Voice Message – send a voice message to a LinkedIn connection.
AI Voice Message – automatically generate and send a personalized AI voice message to a LinkedIn connection.
💡Important: To start using LinkedIn outreach, please make sure to connect your LinkedIn account.
If the sequence includes contacts without LinkedIn URLs, Reply will assign them the Missing Data status.
How to add an automatic LinkedIn step to a sequence?
Open an existing sequence or create a new one.
Navigate to the Steps tab and select LinkedIn.
If you're adding a step to an existing sequence, click on the + button to add a new step and select LinkedIn.From the drop-down list, select Automatic, then choose the type of step you want to add.
💡Note: If you select 'Manual' from the drop-down, you'll be guided through setting up manual LinkedIn connections.
Complete the step.
If you choose Message, enter your message in the text editor (up to 8,000 symbols).
If you choose Connect, enter an optional personal message (up to 300 symbols) in the connection request text editor.
Click Save.
That’s it! You can continue adding more steps if needed.
Types of LinkedIn automatic steps
LinkedIn automatic steps can include messages, connection requests, InMails, profile views, and more. Here are the descriptions of all the LinkedIn automatic steps that you can create:
Message
A LinkedIn message is a direct message to your contact. To message LinkedIn users outside your network, be sure to include both Connect and Message steps in your sequence.
Once you add an automatic LinkedIn Message step to a sequence, Reply checks if the prospect is already a connection. If you are not connected to this prospect, this step will be skipped, and the contact will be moved to the next step in the sequence.
You can type your message in the text field. For the message step, you can also add links, pictures, and attachments. To make the process easier, you can use a template. To do this, click on the Templates icon → Select a folder → Choose the template you want.
💡Note: Messages cannot exceed the limit of 8000 symbols.
You can also personalize your message by using variables. To add variables, click on the { } icon → Select from Contact, Team, or Advanced variables → Insert the ones you need.
You can preview your message by clicking the eye icon in the bottom right corner of the pop-up.
For attachments, the supported file formats are the same as on LinkedIn:
Adobe PDF (.pdf)
Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt/.pptx)
Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx)
.jpg/.jpeg
.png
.gif
Please note that the maximum file size is 3 MB. You can attach only 1 file per message.
Connect
This step sends a connection request with a short note to someone on LinkedIn.
When you add an automatic LinkedIn connect step to a sequence and run it, Reply checks if a LinkedIn account is connected to this sequence and if the prospect is already a connection. If the prospect that goes through this step is not a connection of yours, there will be an attempt to send a connection request. If you are already connected to the prospect, this step will be skipped, and the prospect will be moved to the next step in the sequence.
You can use templates and variables in the text editor, just like in the message step. However, attachments are not available for the Connect step; they are only supported for automatic LinkedIn messages.
💡Note: Connection requests cannot exceed 300 characters.
View Profile
This step automatically views the profiles of your contacts.
Like Recent Posts
Use this step to automatically like the posts published by your prospects.
InMail
This step allows you to send private messages to anyone on LinkedIn without having to establish a prior connection. Here's a detailed article about the InMail step.
Endorse Skills
With this step, you can automatically endorse the skills of your contacts.
Note that this feature only works for contacts you're already connected with on LinkedIn. If you're not connected, this step will be skipped, and the contact will move to the next step in the sequence.
When setting up this action, you can choose up to 3 skills to endorse. If the contact has fewer than the selected number of skills, only the available skills will be endorsed.
Follow Profile
This step automates the process of following targeted contacts on LinkedIn.
If you're already connected with a contact, this step will be skipped since LinkedIn automatically follows your connections. However, if you follow someone first, you can still send them a connection request.
Voice Message
LinkedIn voice messages allow you to send a quick 60-second audio clip to a contact.
You can learn more about how to use voice messages in Reply.io in this article.
AI Voice Message
AI Voice Messages let you send personalized audio messages generated by AI, using your chosen voice. This step helps you automate voice messages without recording them manually.
You can learn more about how to set up and customize AI Voice Messages in this article.
LinkedIn link types
To successfully run LinkedIn steps, your prospects need to have valid LinkedIn profile links.
In a prospect's profile, you will see LinkedIn and LI Sales Navigator fields.
👉 Example: https://www.linkedin.com/in/example
This field should contain the prospect’s public LinkedIn profile URL.
LI Sales Navigator
This field may contain Sales Navigator links in one of the following formats:
ACo links
👉 Example: https://www.linkedin.com/sales/lead/ACoAAA1EXAMPLE1234,name,SEwi
ACw links
👉 Example: https://www.linkedin.com/sales/lead/ACwAAA1EXAMPLE,NAME,_O0e
These links are typically added when you scrape prospects individually or in bulk from Sales Navigator using Findy. When a LinkedIn step is processed, the Sales Navigator link (ACo or ACw) is automatically converted into the public LinkedIn profile link so the step can run properly.
LinkedIn badges
Once a contact is processed through a LinkedIn step, the system can add the following LinkedIn badges:
Open to Work
Hiring
Creator
Top Voice
These badges are added based on available LinkedIn profile data and can be used as additional context in outreach targeting.
💡 Important notes:
When you set up a sequence with LinkedIn steps, please add your LinkedIn account(s) in the sequence settings. You can select a single account or multiple accounts from the list.
You can send messages only to contacts who are your 1st-degree connections on LinkedIn, meaning they are already in your network.
For contacts who are not yet connected (2nd and 3rd-degree connections), you can send them a connection request instead.
When a contact is processed through a LinkedIn step, email and phone number data can also be automatically enriched from their LinkedIn profile if available and if these fields are empty for the contact.
To use LinkedIn's automatic steps, make sure that your LinkedIn localization is set to English. As of now, Reply's automation for LinkedIn accounts is fully supported only for those who use English. If you use other languages, some features of LinkedIn automation may not be available or may not work as expected. To edit this, please log in to your LinkedIn account, go to Settings & Privacy, select Site Preferences, and choose English under Site Language.
