In this article, we'll walk through how to set up an AI SDR sequence.
If you're new to AI SDR, see Overview of Jason AI SDR to learn how it works and how it can benefit you. Let's get started!
Content:
Step 1. Add your business information
First, you'll add the core information Jason needs to create and personalize your outreach, including your business website, messaging guidance, product content, and outreach channels.
Create a sequence
You can create an AI SDR sequence in two ways:
Go to AI SDR → Jason AI SDR.
Or click New sequence and select Jason AI SDR in the drop-down menu.
Add your business details
Start by pasting your website URL or uploading relevant files, such as pitch decks or product documentation, to the attachments.
The system will use this information to generate your company name, description, Ideal Customer Profile (ICP), pain points, value propositions, proof points, case studies, and CTAs.
Key information the AI will use includes:
Reason for outreach: Why you're reaching out to this audience now
Pain points: Challenges your product or service helps solve
Value proposition: What makes your solution unique or effective
Proof points: Data or evidence that shows your product works
Case studies: Real success stories
CTAs (Calls-to-Action): Next steps you want leads to take, like booking a call
Once the AI has generated these, you can edit any suggested options if needed and add more examples by clicking the + button.
💡 [Available in Beta] If you edit the suggested ICP, you can click Regenerate All to generate new pain points and value propositions based on the updated ICP.
Add your playbook, knowledge base, and offer
Next, you can give Jason more detailed guidance on how to handle message creation and responses:
AI SDR Playbooks let you guide the tone, style, and messaging strategy Jason uses when writing to prospects.
Knowledge Base is where you add helpful content about your product, like features, descriptions, FAQs, or pricing, that Jason will use when replying to prospects.
Offers let you segment your audience and tailor your messaging, so Jason can create more relevant outreach.
You can also choose the AI model that will analyze your website.
Choose outreach channels
After that, choose which communication channels Jason should use in your sequence. By default, AI SDR will generate conditional email steps. You can also add:
LinkedIn steps (connection requests, messages, profile views, likes, and more)
LinkedIn InMail (if you have a Sales Navigator subscription)
Call steps (Jason will generate a custom script for each call)
Other steps, such WhatsApp, SMS, or manual steps, can be added later once the first sequence draft is generated.
You can also configure how the messages are generated:
Whether to use a conditional sequence
Language
Tone of voice (e.g. confident, empathetic, straightforward)
Message length
Step 2. Add contact sources
Then, choose who Jason should reach out to. You can build your audience using live search via Sales Navigator Autopilot, import your own contacts, use Buying intent signals, or combine different sources together.
By default, AI SDR uses Sales Navigator Autopilot and suggests filters based on your ICP. These filters help define your target audience. Once the sequence is launched, Autopilot will keep searching and adding new contacts daily based on your settings. You can edit the filters anytime.
You can also add other contact sources, such as:
Technology used (under Buying Intent Signals)
Add contacts from companies that use a specific technology or tool. Available only with Sales Navigator Autopilot.
Hiring intent (under Buying Intent Signals)
Add contacts from companies that are actively hiring. Available only with Sales Navigator Autopilot.
AI web search
Find contacts using web search beyond Sales Navigator.LinkedIn post engagers

Target contacts who have visited your website.Manual sources
Import contacts from a CSV file, add contacts from existing lists, create contacts manually, use integrations, or run a LinkedIn search.
Step 3. Select personalization options
In the Research agents tab, you can choose how Jason personalizes messages for each prospect.
Personalization points let you define what Jason should research before writing – for example, details about a company, a prospect's role or achievements, or relevant industry context. This helps Jason tailor messages more precisely instead of relying only on basic company and prospect information.
You can adjust these settings depending on how deep or specific you want the personalization to be.
Step 4. Review outreach steps
When you move to the next step, AI SDR will generate a sequence for you.
The steps will contain placeholder text, and each step will be personalized for each contact when it's scheduled to go out. You can also edit, remove, or add steps as needed before moving on to the final setup step.
You can also update your outreach channels after the sequence is created, as long as it hasn't started sending yet. For example, if your sequence includes only email and LinkedIn steps, you can go back to Jason AI → Settings and add a call step before launch. The sequence will automatically update to include the new channel.
💡 This option is only available before the sequence is launched. Once the sequence is active, outreach channels can no longer be changed.
Email threads
You can control which email steps in your sequence will start a new thread directly from the sequence builder. By default, the first email in each branch always starts a new thread, and this cannot be changed. For all other email steps, you can choose whether to continue the existing thread or start a new one.
Click New thread + on the steps where you'd like to begin a new thread. If you'd like an email to continue an existing thread, click again to turn this option off.
💡 This setting only controls where a new thread begins. You can still customize the subject line and content for each step in your Playbook.
💡Note about LinkedIn connection requests:
Our research shows that LinkedIn connections without personalized text tend to perform better, meaning leads are more likely to accept the request. For this reason, automatically generated steps do not include personalized text for connection requests.
If you choose to personalize manually (by going to Preview and clicking Personalize), there is a 50% chance that a personalized text will be generated for the connection request.
Step 5. Configure settings
Sending mode
In the Launch tab, you can review your sequence settings and choose the sending mode: Approval mode or Automatic.
Approval mode: Messages generated by Jason AI are placed on the Pending Approvals page for your review. They won't be sent until you approve them.
Automatic mode: Messages are sent directly to prospects without manual approval.
Handle replies
Enable the Handle replies toggle in the Jason AI tab if you want Jason to generate and send responses to incoming messages.
You can either let Jason send replies automatically or save replies as drafts for you to review and approve.
You can also choose how to handle follow-ups to silent leads. Decide whether Jason should send follow-ups automatically or save them as drafts for your review first. For more details, see the Re-engagement article.
Meeting scheduling
Finally, decide how meetings will be scheduled. You can:
Manage scheduling manually
Let Reply handle scheduling automatically
Connect other tools
If you use Reply for scheduling, link your calendar under Settings → Meetings. Jason will check your availability, suggest meeting times, and automatically respond to meeting-related replies.
After your sequence is set up, you can return to Jason AI → Settings to enable or disable personalization for emails and LinkedIn steps. You can also adjust other settings, including sending mode, AI model, tone of voice, playbook, personalization points, language, or business information.
Changes will only apply to contacts who haven't yet received any steps. For more details on how personalization works, see this article.
👉For a more detailed overview of other sequence settings, see the Advanced sequence management article.
That's it! Once saved, Jason AI will begin sending your personalized sequence based on your setup. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to our support team via chat or email us at [email protected].
