You can now remove steps from your sequence, even if some contacts have already completed them. This guide shows you how to do it, what happens after a step is removed, and the limitations to keep in mind.
How to remove a step?
Open your sequence and go to the Steps tab.
Hover over and click on the bin icon in the step you want to remove.
Click on 'Delete' in the pop-up window.
Confirm the action if some prospects have already completed the step.
π‘ Once a step is removed, it cannot be restored.
What happens when you remove a completed step?
When you delete a step, it will no longer appear in the People History and Preview tabs, as well as in the Current Step column. In filters, integrations, triggers, contact activity, and tasks, deleted steps will show as '(Deleted)'.
Contacts
If the deleted step was part of the Merge or Move to sequence action, contacts will skip it and go to the next step.
However, if you delete the last step in a sequence, there are no further steps to process. In this case, contacts won't be moved to the deleted step or to another sequence.
Email threads
The very first email in a sequence cannot be removed if it's the first email of a thread.
If you delete the first email in the second (or any later) thread, the rest of the emails from that thread will be moved into the previous one.
Reports
Reports keep historical data from deleted steps and are not affected.
Triggers and tasks
Triggers still run even if the step is deleted. If a trigger was set to Move to step and that step is deleted, the trigger will fail. Other triggers will continue to work.
Tasks linked to deleted steps are not removed and can still be completed.
Inbox
Inbox threads are not affected. You can continue communication with your contacts even if the related step has been deleted.
π‘ Important notes: If you have two email steps with subject lines, you can remove either the first one or the second one.
If only one step remains in the sequence, the delete option won't be available.
