Manage auto-replies in the inbox

Manage how auto-replies, out-of-office messages, and bounced emails appear in Reply

Written by Dasha Leshchenko

Reply can automatically detect auto-replies, out-of-office messages, and bounced emails. By default, these messages are hidden from your inbox to help keep it organized.

You can choose whether these emails should be displayed in Reply and how they should be handled in your email provider (such as Gmail or Outlook).

Reply provides separate settings for:

  • Your email provider inbox (Gmail, Outlook, etc.)

  • Your Reply inbox

This allows you to control how automated responses are displayed in each location. To do this:

  1. Open the Emails tab in your Settings and go to the Email Safety section.

  2. Under How to handle Auto replies and Bounce emails in your email client, select one of the following options:

    • Do Nothing (keep emails in your mailbox)

    • Delete (automatically remove emails from your mailbox)

    • Mark as read (keep emails and mark them as read)

  3. Under How to handle Auto replies and Bounce emails in your Reply inbox, select one of the following options:

    • Do not display (hide emails from the Reply Inbox and contact cards)

    • Display (show emails as unread in the Reply Inbox and contact cards)

    • Display & mark as read (show emails and automatically mark them as read)

  4. Click Save settings.

The Email Safety section also includes the following settings:

  • Delay before sending the first email. This setting defines how long Reply waits before sending the first email to a contact. The default delay is 30 seconds.

  • Max daily emails per contact. This setting limits how many emails a contact can receive from your account within a single day. The default limit is 1 email per contact per day.
