How to send the next step only to some contacts

Last updated on Oct 30, 2026

Sometimes you want the next step to go only to some of the contacts in a sequence, for example, only to contacts who got Step 1 on a certain day. Pause everyone, then set the contacts you want back to Active.

💡 Do this before the next step is sent. Pausing doesn't move a contact's next step date, so paused contacts get the step later, once you set them back to Active. See Contact statuses.

How to do it

  1. Open the sequence and go to the People tab.
  2. Select all contacts, click Change status and set the Paused status.
  3. Click the filter icon and then Create new filter.
  4. In Property, choose Last Touch. It shows when the contact got their latest step.
  5. Choose Custom range and set the same day in both fields, or choose Exactly and enter how many days ago the step went out.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Select all contacts in the results, click Change status and set the Active status.

The contacts you set back to Active get the next step as your sequence schedule and step delay allow. The others stay paused until you set them to Active.

💡 Last Touch moves forward each time a contact gets a step. Filter before the next step goes out, or the date you need is replaced.
